In Southeast Kansas, Allen, Chautauqua, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson. * WHEN...Until 1215 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 717 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Independence, Chanute, Iola, Neodesha, Fredonia, Cherryvale, Caney, Humboldt, Yates Center, Sedan, La Harpe, Gas, Moran, Thayer, Altoona, Elk City, Buffalo, Tyro, Neosho Falls and Peru. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued April 27 at 7:14PM CDT until April 27 at 7:45PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS At 713 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Elk City, or 11 miles west of Independence, moving northeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Independence, Neodesha, Altoona, Elk City, Havana, Bolton, Sycamore, Elk City Lake, and Elk City State Park. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until midnight CDT for southeastern Kansas. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
